DESCRIPTION:Cleveland Balboa Club is proud to present FLYING SOLO WITH JO HOFFBERG in CLEVELAND June 2026. \n40 dancers. 13 hours. One weekend that’s going to change how you move. Flying Solo is a weekend intensive for dancers who sense that there’s something bigger underneath the steps they’ve been collecting — and they’re right. \nThis isn’t figure-by-figure memorization. It’s learning how movement fits together: thinking about jazz steps as rhythms (instead of moves) in order to train more efficiently\, how to scaffold your own learning so new material actually sticks\, and how to build a practice that makes you better when nobody’s watching. We’ll use swing music and vernacular jazz shapes\, but we’ll also dance to r&b\, disco\, funk\, and house — because it all comes from the same tradition\, and if you can dance\, you can dance to any of it. \nYou’ll work on rhythm\, bounce\, body awareness\, arms\, musicality\, and improvisation – broken into layers you can actually practice on your own. By Sunday\, you won’t just know more things. You’ll understand how your body works\, how to chunk information instead of drowning in it\, and how to close the gap between the dancer you are right now and the dancer you want to be. \nJo Hoffberg has run Flying Solo in San Francisco\, Chicago\, Philadelphia\, Boulder\, NYC\, Berlin\, Munich\, and Wrocław. 92% of students say they’d do it again. 42% say it was worth more than they paid. SUMMARY:Cleveland Swing Thing
DESCRIPTION:Cleveland Swing Thing is a new workshop weekend being hosted by the Cleveland Balboa Club from August 21-23\, 2026. Featuring a mixed dance floor\, lessons from your favorite instructors\, and an all-around great time\, this event will harken back to the idea that the dances we love developed on the same dance floors and we can dance to the music our body feels instead of limiting ourselves to a single dance\, rhythm\, or tempo. This year\, lessons will focus on blues\, balboa\, and collegiate shag\, with a fun addition of the Cleveland Shuffle and the social settings will broaden the options further to lindy hop\, charleston\, and whatever other movement your heart desires and dancers of all levels are invited to shuffle\, kick\, and groove to the music that grew up with these dances and learn how to bring them together for one truly fantastic swing dance. \nTrue to this mission\, our instructors are working to put together a program of mixed-level classes in a choose-your-own-adventure setting that will have options for both beginner and more advanced dancers alike. So whether you want to refine or build your skills or learn a new dance altogether\, you will find something for you. Class descriptions will be updated as the event gets closer\, so check back in after purchasing your pass so you can be prepared. There will also be three social dance opportunities and we are thrilled to partner with Burning River Swing to provide some amazing music.
